Recipe for Creamy Cole Slaw. This is the recipe for classic, creamy cole slaw. Since this versatile salad goes with so many dishes, it's a good one to have in your repertoire.


  • 1 large head of green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/4 head red cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 large carrots, finely shredded
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white wine or rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • salt pepper to taste


  1. Mix together mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar and oil. Add onion powder, mustard, celery salt, pepper, buttermilk and salt and pepper. Pour over shredded vegetables in a large bowl. Toss until well coated. Let chill for a few hours before serving.
