Cream Cheese filled Cupcakes with Chocolate Sauce

This is a great cupcake recipe. If you love chocolate, cream cheese and cupcakes then this is the recipe for you.


  • Cupcake:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sifted cocoa powder (if chocolate cupcake is desired)
  • 1 teaspoon BAKING SODA
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 ounces chocolate chips (bittersweet is best but you can use any other variety)
  • 1/4 cup coconut flakes
  • Cream Cheese Filling:
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Chocolate Sauce:


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line muffin tin with muffin liners.
  3. In a large mixing bowl or bowl of an electric mixer, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (for chocolate cupcakes only), baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients, adding the hot water last.
  5. Beat until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly, about 1/2-3/4 of the way full.
  7. Cupcake:
  8. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese with the sugar.
  9. Fold in the chocolate chips and coconut.
  10. Drop the cream cheese mixture into the center of the cupcakes.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cupcakes rise and a toothpick inserted into the cupcake comes out clean.
  12. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  13. Cream Cheese Filling:
  14. In a small, heavy saucepan, bring the cream to a bare simmer over low heat.
  15. Place the chocolate pieces in a medium bowl.
  16. Add the cream into the chocolate and let sit for 3 minutes.
  17. Add the vanilla and whisk until the chocolate is melted and the sauce thickens.
  18. Drizzle over cupcakes before serving.
