Cookbook review of Betty Crocker Whole Grains -- Easy Everyday Recipes plus free sample whole grain recipes.
When I first saw this whole grain cookbook from Betty Crocker, I wasn't expecting much.  But I was wrong.  The book is not (as I expected) a bunch of thrown together convenience foods, but rather an inspired collection of tasty wholesome recipes that make these healthy ingredients easy and accessible to average families.

In addition to the wide variety of recipes that your family will actually eat, there are basic whole grain how to's and a fabulous full color two page spread illustrating the various commonly found whole grains.  There are lots of photos of the recipes and complete nutritional breakdowns are included so diabetics and/or dieters can plan the recipes into their meal plans.

For hard core health food nuts, this book may not be your cup of tea -- the recipes still use some "unhealthy" ingredients like sugar and white flour.  But for the average person looking to try new healthy foods or supplement their diet with more whole grain ingredients, this book provides a lot of great ways to do it.

This is a book for busy people.  The recipes are simple are usually quick to fix.  Busy families will especially appreciate the grains on the go chapter with lots of portable whole grain recipes perfect for tucking into brown bag lunches.  The slow cooker chapter gives tie crunched cooks a lot of convenient set it and forget it options.

Chapters include: Better Breakfasts; Best Breads; Grains on the Go; Dinners in 30 minutes; Easy Main Dishes; Slow Cooker Sides and meals; Salads, Soups, and Sides; Delicious Desserts.
