Consumer product review of Kuhn Rikon's Hand Held Mandoline

I have to admit that I've always been somewhat afraid of traditional mandolines -- their gleaming stainless steel blades always seemed to be menacing my fingers as much as the produce they so efficiently sliced. And I must say that this hand-held version seemed somewhat less intimidating (not that it still couldn't wreak serious damage to one's life and limbs).

The razor-sharp 18/10 stainless steel blade precisely slices through vegetables, fruit and cheese for professional quality results. Measuring 11 inches long, the handy Julienne Mandoline is compact enough for easy storage in a drawer. A protective hand guard prevents waste by allowing you to safely slice almost the entire vegetable, fruit, or cheese piece, and also serves as a blade protector. The long, non-slip black handle sits comfortably and securely in the hand. Cleanup's a breeze as it's all dishwasher safe.

Kitchen gadget junkies will find this tool handy for small kitchen tasks like making ultra-thin uniform slices of fruits and veggies like cucumbers, carrots, apples, radishes, etc. However, its size limits its functions, making it a useful, albeit unnecssary kitchen accessory.
